Gujarat Fortunegiants and Haryana Steelers showed nerves of steel winning back-to-back points in pressurising conditions to end the game at 27-27 and had to suffice with 3 points each. The match was dominated by raiders from both sides but the battle eventually ended inconclusively.

Gujarat Fortunegiants dominate the Steelers with attacking play

Surender Nada chose the court and invited Gujarat to raid first. After two rounds of empty raids, Gujarat opened a two-point lead through their do-or-die raid to take the scorecard to 3-0. Haryana finally opened their account when Prashanth Kumar Rai managed to touch Abozar Mighani in the right corner. In the front of Gujarat’s stoic defence, Haryana failed to steal points, but later their defenders were successful in decreasing the deficit to 5-4. Despite being reduced to only three men on the mat, Haryana defenders successfully got hold of Sachin to complete the super tackle to level the scorecard at 7-7. But in the do or die raid Mighani’s ankle hold helped them take a slender one-point lead before doubling the lead with a successful raid .Wazir Singh crumbled in his next raid as Gujarat managed one point to take the score to 10-8. With no teams in mood to give an inch to the other, the first half ended with a short three-point lead for the Gujarat side as the scorecard read 11-8.

The thriller fittingly ends with a stalemate

In the second half, Haryana started the game with only their defenders on court and after two empty raids, they intelligently substituted Mohit Chillar with Surjeet Singh. The move paid instant dividends as Surjeet earned two points with his raid to narrow the lead to 11-10. With one more point in his next raid, Nada completed his high five which helped the team level the score at 11-11. With the game going neck to neck, Gujarat added two more points through a super tackle, which inspired their players to send five players of Haryana out of the mat in almost no-time. With the score at 16-12 and 12 minutes to go in the match, Gujarat inflicted the first all-out of the match to earn four points. At 22-13, Haryana managed one bonus and one raid point. With the time running out, Haryana decided to up their game and made a spectacular comeback as Vikas Khandola managed a super raid to take the game to 22-22. The intensity of match was in full flow as the scorecard was levelled at 24-24 before Haryana took a lead, but Gujarat sent Surjeet, the most successful raider of Haryana, out of the mat to take the game to 25-all. Eventually, with 27-27, the game ended with a stalemate as both the teams shared points among each other.
