Manjeet Chhilar (8) and Jasvir Singh (10) were the stars of the show for Jaipur Pink Panthers as they produced one of the best performances in PKL-5 to beat Bengaluru Bulls 30-28 in Lucknow. Rohit Kumar scored 11 points but the star raider was let down by his team who failed to stop the Panthers.

Manjeet’s tackles and Jasvir’s raids hand Panthers a slender lead

Ajay Kumar was the first to get his name on the scoresheet but his counterpart Jasvir Singh followed the suit to take a bonus point in his first raid as well. Manjeet Chillar won the first battle against Rohit Kumar on the left cover sending him off the mat in his second raid. Both the teams banked on bonus points to keep the scoreboard ticking before Chillar once again proved his might in the defence and it was Bengaluru Bulls second best raider Ajay Kumar falling victim to Chillar’s ankle hold as the scoreboard read 2-5 in favour of the Pink Panthers. The Jaipur defence was on a roll after they sent Rohit Kumar on the bench for the second time in the game after he was revived at the cost of Jasvir Singh. After a series of empty raids, Jasvir Singh was burdened with the responsibility of scoring on a do-or-die raid but Jasvir was pinned down to the mat before the revived Ajay Kumar followed it up by sending Manjeet Chillar to the bench for the first time on the night.

A successful tackle by the Bulls defence brought back skipper Rohit Kumar back to the mat and it proved to be the turning point of the first half. It was the Rohit Kumar show after that as the talented raider proved his mettle by fetching his first points in a do-or-die raid before earning his first tackle point on the very next raid and followed it up with two-touch points to wipe out the Jaipur team from the mat inflicting the first all-out of the game. However, Jasvir Singh was at his attacking best in the very next raid escaping the grasp of three Bulls’ players to record a Super Raid against his name. Ajay Kumar was in the mix after he was chosen to raid the opponents in a do-or-die raid but Ajay failed to score a point and was forced to exit the mat. Jasvir Singh followed it up with two successful raids before the Panthers’ defence stopped Rohit Kumar in his tracks to inflict the first all-out on the Bulls and take a lead of 17-14 at the end of the first half.

Manjeet Chillar single-handedly annihilates Bengaluru Bulls to clinch slender win for Panthers

Jasvir continued his mesmerising run in the game with a running hand touch and Manjeet Chillar complemented his raider with yet another ankle hold sending Ajay Kumar to the bench for the second time in the game. From then on, the Jaipur team started playing risk-free kabaddi running down the clock in their raids. Manjeet Chillar was on the scorecard for the fifth time in the game when he brought down Asish Kumar to take the score to 21-14 in his team’s favour. With the Bulls team reduced to just three players, Nitin Narwal increased their troubles with a successful raid before Jasvir and Manjeet combined once again to inflict the second all-out of the game on Bengaluru, opening up a 27-16 lead. In the following raid, Jasvir was caught by the Bulls defence and it was a pivotal moment in the match for the Bengaluru who reduced the deficit to 19-27.

However, Manjeet Chillar blocked Rohit Kumar in his raid as the Jaipur skipper continued to dominate the proceedings. Tushar Patil fell prey to the Bulls defence who revived Rohit Kumar back onto the mat while the Jaipur raiders cleverly ran down the clock to irritate the Bengaluru side. However, Manjeet Chillar ended up on the receiving end when Ajay Kumar finally scored at the Jaipur skipper’s cost bringing the game back in balance. Jasvir’s clever play couldn’t prevent an all-out which left the Pink Panthers with a one-point lead with just 19 seconds left on the clock. Jasvir showcased nerves of steel when he raided the Bulls half and not only managed to keep the lead intact but used a scorpion kick brilliantly to seal the game in Jaipur’s favour. The win means that even though Jaipur are still at the bottom of Zone A, they are now level on points with Haryana Steelers and a point behind Dabang Delhi.
