Gujarat Fortunegiants coach Manpreet Singh has lauded the execution of the plan by his boys and stated that they repaid his faith in them by putting in an exceptional performance. Fortunegiants defeated the UP Yoddha in their second qualifier and will play Bengaluru Bulls in the final.

Gujarat Fortunegiants coach Manpreet Singh was a happy man when his men defeated the UP Yoddha 38-31 in the second qualifier of the Pro Kabaddi League(PKL) season six. The Fortunegiants also had a bit of luck when the opposition captain Rishank Devadiga missed out in the second half of the match due to an injury.

“The players executed my strategy to perfection. We planned to limit Nitesh Kumar’s impact in defence and starve Prashanth Kumar Rai for raid points in offence and it worked perfectly. I’m extremely proud of the youngsters and they have repaid my faith in them,” Singh told prokabaddi.com.

Captain Sunil Kumar, who scored three tackle points in the match, was also a happy man on making their second consecutive finals of the PKL. Kumar also explained how they failed to execute their plans against the Bengaluru Bulls in the first qualifier but this time around they did not miss out.

“Against Bengaluru Bulls, we couldn’t execute our game plan. I and Parvesh Bhainswal combined to score only one tackle point and that was a poor return. Today we both played much better overall than we did on Monday He also believed the defence and the offence were in tandem on the mat and the team spirit was a crucial element of their win,” said Kumar.

Both Bengaluru Bulls and Gujarat Fortunegiants have made the long trip to the final in the past but both sides have come out second best in the last game of the season. With a new Champion guaranteed in the sixth edition of the tournament, Manpreet has stated that this is a good thing and asserted that they are planning to lift the trophy this time around even though they failed to do so the last time. 

“There will be a new first-time champion of VIVO Pro Kabaddi, be it us or Bengaluru Bulls, and that is a good thing for the league. In Season 5, we came within touching distance of the trophy and had to be content with that. On Saturday, we plan to lift it.”
