PKL 2019 | Patna Pirates' defence redeemed itself brilliantly, says Ram Mehar Singh
Patna Pirates’ coach Ram Mehar Singh is of the belief that the team’s defence rectified the mistakes it made in the previous match and made a brilliant comeback against Telugu Titans on Friday. He also praised his defence while talking about the strategy they made to keep Siddharth Desai quite.
This was the second match of the season for Patna Pirates and they won this one very convincingly. In this match, their defenders outshone their raiders as they scored more than them. After having lost to Bengaluru Bulls in a close first match they made some changes in their defensive strategies. They lost that match by just a couple of points even though they were in the lead for the majority of the match.
“Even if you see the match, we lost against Bengaluru Bulls, we were in control for the majority of the match. A few defensive mistakes cost us the game eventually. Today, our defence redeemed itself brilliantly. I would like to appreciate the defence for the shift they put in today. Hopefully, we will get even better and can put in even better performances,” coach Ram Mehar Singh said in the post-match press conference.
Jaideep was on top of his game as he scored six tackle points and he was well supported by Neeraj Kumar. They both along with the rest of the defence managed to keep the Desai brothers silent.
“Siddharth Desai was brilliant during Season 6 and proved himself to be a top upcoming raider. I was very happy the way my defence tackled him today. Every team makes plans to stop top raiders but it's very different when the players are on the mat. Our intention was to aggressively tackle him whenever the opportunity presents itself. It was successful,” Patna Pirates coach said.
The Patna Pirates defence scored a total of 16 points as compared to the eight points scored by the Telugu Titans defence. This was where they managed to take the lead and go ahead of the Titans.
“From the start, the defence was working well. We made a few mistakes while raiding initially but with the defence working well, we weren't under any pressure. As long as we were in the lead, we didn't need to force the issue. With the lead with us, they had to put in advanced tackles,” Ram Mehar Singh concluded.
