PKL 2019 | Both departments responsible for result, believes Anup Kumar
As per Anup Kumar, both raiding and the defence of Puneri Paltan were responsible for the loss against Bengal Warriors on Monday. The Paltan coach also said that substitute raiders like Pankaj Mohite and Amit Kumar will get their chances to showcase their skills in the coming days as well.
Puneri Paltan are having a very poor season so far, as they have lost their first three matches in the ongoing league. The last game against Bengal Warriors was a one-sided game when nothing worked well for the team from Pune and Anup Kumar’s boys tasted a huge 20-point defeat from the hands of the Kolkata-based side. The coach is of the belief that both the departments had a poor day at the office and that is the reason for their thrashing loss against the Warriors.
“I think both departments are responsible for today’s result. In the beginning, the raiders did not deliver as expected which is why our rate of scoring was slow. Raiders are supposed to score quickly at the start which did not happen,” Anup said during the post-match press conference.
With Nitin Tomar out of the league till the end of the Patna leg, the Paltan are short of options when it comes to the raiding department. They played with Manjeet as their primary raider and also have Pawan Kadian and Darshan Kadian in the team who played in the previous season. However, in the game against the Warriors, Pankaj Mohite, Amit Kumar, and Sushant Sail were seen doing well for them in the chances that they got. Anup has assured that the youngsters will get more chances going ahead in the league.
“That depends on the match. We will see who we are playing against. They will definitely get a chance to showcase their talent,” stated Anup.
“All the matches are tough and we will try and put up a fight in all of them. We tried that today as well. When a player is on the mat, he doesn’t look at reducing the margin of defeat, his only aim is to give his 100% so that the team can win the match. But if the lead goes beyond a certain point it becomes difficult to recover. The other team gets confidence as well. We will try and avoid that going forward.”
