PKL 2019 | Were going to settle for nothing less than win, says Arjun Singh
UP Yoddha assistant coach Arjun Singh has said that they followed an aggressive approach and went with the mindset of not settling for anything less than a win against Bengaluru Bulls. UP Yoddha won their last league game with a scoreline of 45-33 and are set to face the Bulls again in Eliminator 1.
Brilliant teamwork helped UP Yoddha win against defending champions Bengaluru Bulls on Friday as both their departments supported each other well. At one side, raiders were scoring points consistently, the defence despite a few mistakes in the starting managed to keep the opponent's main raider quite. Both the teams inflicted a four-point super raid which resulted in an all-out and hence by the half time, Bengaluru only had a two-point lead which they failed to maintain in the second half.
“We wanted to be aggressive right from the word go and I believe we were successful in doing that. We were going to settle for nothing less than a win and the team delivered,” UP Yoddha coach Arjun Singh said during the post-match press conference.
The defence was the point of difference between the two teams as UP Yoddha scored a total of 12 tackle points as compared to Bulls' eight points. In the raiding department, Surender Gill emerged as the highest scorer by scoring nine raid points which includes a four-point super raid as well which helped turn the game. He was well supported by Shrikant Jadhav who scored eight raid points.
“The support of the coaching staff and my teammates really helps me out there on the mat. I do not feel the pressure of trying to score points in every raid that I put in, nor am I demoralised when the defence tackles me. Having the likes of Rishank Devadiga and Shrikant Jadhav really helps my confidence,” Gill said on his success this season.
