PKL 2019 | Will try to perform well against U Mumba in playoffs by rectifying our mistakes, asserts Naveen
Before their clash against U Mumba, Haryana Steelers raider Naveen has said that losing the match against U Mumba gave them an insight into their mistakes and so in this match, they will work to rectify them. The Haryana raider also talked about their training regime before the playoffs.
Haryana Steelers have had a good season courtesy of an all-round performance by the team. Both the departments have complemented each other and as a result, the team was able to win 13 out of their 22 matches. Predominantly raiding has been their backbone as the raiding trio of Prashant Kumar Rai, Vikas Kondala and Vinay have worked well for them and before Kandola, Naveen used to act as a lead raider. Though his form dipped a bit, he was still able to score 63 points in 16 matches. Coincidentally, Haryana played their last match against U Mumba but in that match, the result wasn’t in their favour. Â
"At the moment, we are just focussing on giving our best and aiming to reach the final. We made a few errors in our defensive game in the last match against U Mumba. However, that match gave us an idea about which aspects we should improve on. Therefore, we will rectify our mistakes and try to perform well against U Mumba in the playoff," said Naveen.
In that match, Haryana’s defence faltered and let U Mumba’s raider get easy points and that is one of the main reasons, Haryana lost the match. Though now that both the teams have won one match of their two encounters the playoffs are going to be a level-playing field.Â
"We are practicing hard during our training sessions. There are a few changes in our training regime for the playoffs. I feel we have to stay cool and calm in the playoffs as the matches will have tense situations," the Haryana raider explained.
One thing that hasn’t been going well for Haryana is Vikas Kandola's form. In the past matches, he had a strike rate of 50% or less in four of them. Though the other raiders are trying to compensate for him. In defence the Sunil & Ravi Kumar have been doing well and with the return of Dharmaraj Cheralathan, the side will look more balanced. Â
"We will think about victory and nothing else. We will work out our practice sessions according to the team we face and draw out strategies for each player in our opponent team," Naveen concluded.
