A PCB official asserted that bookies have been approaching PSL players through many social media apps and websites. To avoid last year’s embarrassment, Pakistan Cricket Board has asked a betting website in London to report unusual bets being placed on the matches from all over the world.

PSL had been marred with spot-fixing in the previous season and PCB had banned 5 of the six players found guilty of the match-fixing. This year too many bookies have tried to approach PSL players but were reported to the PCB revealed an official.

“A couple of players were approached through social media apps but they did not respond to the bookie and reported the matter to us. “We are watching out for the culprits,” a PCB official was quoted as saying by Dawn.

Last year Sharjeel Khan, Khalid Latif, Mohammad Irfan, Mohammad Nawaz and Nasir Jamshed were banned after they were found guilty of spot-fixing in the 2017 edition of the PSL. To avoid a similar embarrassment this year, PCB had already asked for help from a website based in London to notify them with unusual bettings set to happen in the tournament.

“The website based in London is keeping track of all bets placed on the PSL matches from all over the world and if they notice or pick up any unusual betting patterns on the tournament they will report it to the PCB’s ACU with all details,” the official added.
