On rare occasions, do we see athletes pushing their limits and playing in pain, and today's Asia Cup match between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka gave us such an incident. Tamim Iqbal suffered a fractured wrist at the start of the game but came on to bat later in the innings, albeit, with just one hand.

OiIt was way back in 2009, when South African batsman - Graeme Smith had walked onto the pitch at number eleven, looking to survive 8.2 overs with a broken hand. He had his own blood recently injected into his right elbow, but still played on. Its moments like this, that separate the good from the great and today’s match between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh in the Asia Cup opener surely gave birth to one such great.

Bangladesh opener, Tamim Iqbal, tried to hit a pull shot off a Suranga Lakmal delivery failing which the ball ended up hitting him on the wrist. Tamim looked in discomfort as he left the field and his Asia Cup camapign was all but over.

Bangladesh struggled from there one, but a brilliant performance from middle-order batsmen - Mushfiqur Rahim (144) and Mohammad Mithun (63) ensured that Bangladesh put up a competitive total on the scoreboard.

But, the  main highlight of the game came at the dying stage when Iqbal stole the plaudits as he made his way to the center in the 47th over. A fractured wrist was not going to keep him down. The veteran player made a hole in his glove so that it could fit the taped hand.

Tamim further went on to get rid of the bottom-hand and just used his top-hand to fend off Lakmal’s delivery to the on-side.
