VIDEO | MS Dhoni whips off Ross Taylor’s bails literally in a fraction of a second

The world asked for his head, called him unsuitable for modern-day demands of ODI cricket and MS Dhoni decided to answer in his own style. He again proved that he is literally ahead of his time when he dislodged Ross Taylor’s bails when the latter took his foot off only for a fraction of a second.

For the longest time in ODI cricket, MS Dhoni has been the ultimate cricketer. When cricket is finite, he doesn’t gamble because he has been blessed with an immaculate brain that calculates everything. While batting, that knows exactly how many runs are needed and what he needs to do to get his team over the line. While keeping, he knows when the batsman is about to commit an error. Ask Trent Boult, he would tell you. And if 15 years of highlights in international cricket were not enough, one can just ask Ross Taylor and he would tell you how MS Dhoni outfoxed him for a mistake that he had committed only for a fraction of a second, literally.

On the very first delivery of the 18th over, Kedar Jadhav managed to find some drift and Taylor, who tried to push that delivery on the front foot, was beaten on the outside edge. Dhoni had his eyes fixed on Taylor’s backfoot and in one sweeping motion the former Indian skipper was able to take off the bails. Knowing fully well that he had lifted his foot just a few inches off the ground, Taylor seemed confident that he was safe.

The New Zealand star, however, forgot that MS Dhoni was the wicket-keeper for India and not Nayan Mongia. The leg-umpire immediately went upstairs to check if Taylor’s foot was indeed inside the line. What was shown on the screen was pure magic. Dhoni took off the bails on a flash exactly when Taylor had taken his foot off for less than second.

While it was one of the finest stumping dismissals that MS Dhoni had effected in the recent memory, it also highlighted his ability to stay in the present - an exclusive MS Dhoni trait. The replays also suggested that even the uber-cool keeper had a huge smile on his face while receiving the team’s applause.

This is exactly what it looked like in real time
