Former South African cricketer Shaun Pollock has advised South African bowlers to think out of the box to tackle the Indian batsmen in the ongoing Test match between India and South Africa. The Protean bowlers have found it hard to restrict the run-flow of the Indian batsmen in Vizag.

The South African bowlers were hammered all around as India sat at a comfortable position at the end of Day 1 of the first Test match in Vizag. The hosts ended Day 1 of the Test without losing a single wicket, piling misery on the South African bowlers with every passing over.

The South African fast bowlers were largely inactive, posing hardly any threat to both the openers. Shaun Pollock feels that the bowlers need to ‘think out of the box’ to create any sort of trouble for the Indian batting line-up.

“Perhaps, the conditions are not suiting our bowlers here. They have to think out of the box, apply all their knowledge and experience to be effective in these conditions. I don’t believe they can’t be,” said the former cricketer, reported Sportstar.

Pollock was himself a master of fast bowling, having picked up 421 wickets in his Test career at an average of 23.11. He further stressed on the fact that the bowlers need to be clever when delivering to different batsmen in order to expose their weaknesses.

“Later, you have to get the ball to reverse. You have to bowl with good control. And you have to be clever when you bowl at different batsmen, you need to work out their weaknesses and expose them as soon as possible,” added Pollock.
