IND vs SA | Waiting for overseas challenge as opener, says Rohit Sharma
Rohit Sharma understands that the challenge for him as an opener in overseas conditions will be difficult, but he is not reading much into it. After scoring a double in Ranchi, Rohit believes that perception regarding his Test career might change and pled to the media to write good things about him.
Rohit Sharma's sojourn as an opener started in a great fashion with twin centuries in the first Test in Vizag which he, after a minor blip in Pune, followed that up with his maiden Test double ton. His 212 in Ranchi had a classic Rohit written all over it, and many doubts about him quashed straightaway. However, a bigger challenge awaits for him when the team travels to New Zealand earlier next year, and Rohit understands the magnitude of it.
"New ball does something. In Pune and here (Ranchi), it was tough in the morning. Rabada spell was quite challenging. But conditions overseas will be different. Not reading too much right now, waiting for the overseas challenge as an opener," Rohit said in the post-match press conference.
While he has been a behemoth in the limited-overs cricket, might be one of the sport's all-time great, his Test career has always been seen through a tainted glass. He has always been under the scanner and branded as a home track bully, which seems to have hurt the Mumbaikar a lot.
"Wanted to use the opportunity to full. Otherwise, a lot would have been said and written (about my Test career). You folks write a lot about me. Now you will write some good things I hope," Rohit added.
