Harbhajan Singh gave a very straightforward answer when asked to pick a winner in the Tendulkar-Kohli debate, choosing to opt for Tendulkar as his choice for the best Indian player. The 36-year-old, however, added that Kohli has inspired India and taken them to the next level in terms of fitness.

Kohli has been on a bit of the purple patch for quite a while and the debate on whether he can challenge Sachin Tendulkar as the greatest Indian batsman has gained momentum. Harbhajan Singh, however, thinks that even if Kohli broke the latter's records he would still struggle to emerge from Tendulkar's shadow because of his contribution to Indian cricket.

"Virat Kohli is a champion player but Sachin Tendulkar will always remain number one. I hope Virat breaks all batting records, but Sachin will remain Sachin. Most people in this country, including Virat and me, started playing cricket because of Sachin. If you ask Virat, he too will say the same. Paaji is Paaji," Harbhajan explained in an interview with NDTV.

The 36-year-old did, however, add that Kohli's passion is second to none and he has now taken the responsibility to guide the team to success on his own.

"Virat's passion has taken him to the next level. He wants to be the guy who takes the team home. Virat is not only fit himself, but motivates others to be fit," Harbhajan said.

After winning back-to-back series against New Zealand and England, Virat Kohli's India will now take on Australia with the first Test of the four-match series scheduled for February 23 in Pune.
