Sri Lanka batsman Dimuth Karunaratne has stated that he is ready to tackle the duo of R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja in the upcoming series and admitted that he will have to think out of the box for the same. He also said that they are practicing on dusty wickets to counter the Indian spinners.
Karunaratne was Sri Lanka’s leading run-scorer in the 0-3 loss against India in the Test series in September this year and wanted to perform better against Virat Kohli-led team in the upcoming three-match Test series starting November 16. He unveiled that he has some plans to tackle India’s spin duo of Ashwin and Jadeja.
"I know Jadeja and Ashwin are both hungry for wickets. Every time they bowl it's about sticking to the basics. If I don't give them any chance, they will try to do something else. If we need them to change the field you have to do something extra," Karunaratne said as quoted by NDTV.
The 29-year old has played 44 Tests for Sri Lanka in which he scored 3060 runs. In India's last tour to Emerald Isle, he scored 285 runs, including a brilliant knock of 141 runs in the second innings of the first Test.
"That's my game plan... I wait for the loose ones and I will stick to that. If it does not work I will think out of the box and give some extra pressure to the bowlers," he added.
The left-handed opener was dismissed twice by Ashwin and once by Jadeja in the last series. However, for this time he had done some rigorous preparations for the tough series.
He further added that Board President's XI did not play a left-arm spinner as India may go with two left-
"They didn't give us left-arm spinners. It's not easy I know they will definitely play with Jadeja, and maybe Kuldeep to go alongside Ashwin," he said.
