WATCH | Gautam Gambhir takes incredible catch after fumbling the ball thrice
KKR have had their troubles in the field in the ongoing IPL season - losing the thriller against Mumbai due to their fielding mishaps. In the match against KXIP, their fielding had already cost them a couple of wickets but their captain, Gambhir, showed them exactly how it should (not) be done.
After a run blitz by Glenn Maxwell and then David Miller and Wriddhiman Saha, KKR had fought their way into the game through Umesh Yadav, who had claimed three wickets in a single over. On the last ball of the Punjab innings, Chris Woakes bowled a good length ball on the off stump to Varun Aaron, who tried to backs away and hammer it, as Danny Morrison would say, to the moon.
However, the Punjab pacer got a leading edge and the ball went high into the Kolkata night sky. Gautam Gambhir took responsibility for the catch as he positioned himself under the ball. On his first attempt, the ball hit the KKR captain's palms and bounced out. It looked like Kolkata's wretched run of catching was set to continue but Gambhir, somehow, managed to get his right hand to the ball. He tried to grasp the ball with his fingers but failed miserably as the ball just refused to stick.
Tumbling, the 35-year-old, got both his hands to the ball again but yet again the ball just refused to come to a stop. However, this time the ball got some extra air and Gambhir got the time to settle himself under the ball to finally take the catch.
