MS Dhoni’s ability to read the game unmatched in world cricket, says Axar Patel
Axar Patel has heaped praise on MS Dhoni claiming that the latter’s ability to read the game is unmatched in international cricket and his experience will help the young players in the ongoing series against Sri Lanka. Axar also stated that team unity is one of the major factors in India's success.
MS Dhoni will join the Indian squad for the limited-overs series against Sri Lanka after getting some time off during the Test series. The last competitive game that he featured in was the T20I game against New Zealand on November 7. Now, Team India is eager to maintain their winning momentum against Sri Lanka after claiming the three-match Test match series 1-0. Axar believes that Dhoni, who had featured in 309 ODI and 83 T20I for India, will definitely help the youngsters in the team get better.
"MS Dhoni is a big name in Indian cricket and he had served the country at the highest level for over a decade. His ability to read the game unmatched in world cricket and his experience will come in handy for the team in the series vs SL," Axar told India TV.
"Apart from bowlers, the wicket-keeper has the advantage of knowing the nature of the pitch and are good in their assessment of the track. So Dhoni Bhai gives his piece of advice to the bowlers of how the pitch is behaving and his valuable inputs are really crucial for the team."
Axar, who restricts the opposition batsmen by bowling a simple wicket-to-wicket line, was a part of the Indian squad who inflicted a 9-0 whitewash, across all formats, on Sri Lanka in July. The Indian cricket team displayed phenomenal form throughout this year and the 23-year-old has attributed the success to the unity
"There is more unity in the team as we are all are of almost same age group, every player is aware of their roles in the current team and gels well with each other. The batsmen score enough runs every time they go out and give ample chance to the bowlers to have a go at the rival batsmen," he stated.
After the home series against Sri Lanka, Team India will visit South Africa where they will play three Tests, six ODIs, and three T20Is. Patel had played 38 ODI and 10 T20I for India and he also has experience of South African pitches as he played on it while playing for India A team.
"I have played in South Africa for India A, the games were mainly hosted in the small venues which assisted the slower ball bowlers. However, our seniors have told us that the pitches in SA offer a lot more bounce and not very helpful for the spinners, so we have to adapt accordingly as per the situation," Axar said.
