India vs England | Jasprit Bumrah downplays umpiring mistake during second T20I

Jasprit Bumrah has downplayed England skipper Eoin Morgan’s complaint about the poor umpiring decision which led to the dismissal of Joe Root in the second T20I at Nagpur. The pacer, who won the match for India with a fantastic final over, has also applauded Ashish Nehra for his guidance.

In the last match at Nagpur, England were in need of eight runs from the last over to win the game. However, Jasprit Bumrah got a major breakthrough in the first delivery of the final over as Joe Root was trapped in front of the wicket. Replays showed Root had hit the ball before it struck his pad, though.

England went on to lose the game as Bumrah conceded only two runs in that over. After the match, Eoin Morgan expressed his disappointment at the umpiring decision which contributed to the five-run defeat and insisted that they will raise the issue with the match referee in their feedback.

However, Bumrah feels it is pointless to concentrate on umpiring error. He said, “We don’t focus too much on the decisions given by the umpires. Sometimes it goes in our favour, sometime it goes in theirs. That happens in cricket and so you have to move on and not focus too much on umpire’s decision.”

With the win at Nagpur, India had leveled the three-match T20 series, and the last match at Bangalore has turned into a decider. Bumrah’s performance in that game has earned him a lot of applauds, but the young pacer has credited his senior partner Ashish Nehra for guiding him under the pressure.

“He has always been helpful. I have played the T20 World Cup with him. He has played a lot of international cricket and has lot of experience in tough situations. His guidance is always very valuable in tough situations. He tells us about what deliveries to bowl according to the pitch and situation,” Bumrah said, reported the Hindustan Times.

The Indian pacers’ performances were more impressive considering the fact that they also had to deal with dew which made it difficult for them to grip the ball. “It is always difficult when there is dew. While fielding the ball comes at a faster pace than you expect it to come. The high catches are also difficult because the ball is wet. We are working hard on it. We did well in the ODI series, let’s see how it goes in the next match,” he added.
