Anil Kumble re-applies for India coach job
The search for the new Team India coach took a new turn after current coach Anil Kumble reapplied for the position he has held for the past one year. Kumble, who was already awarded a direct entry into the selection process by the BCCI, has reportedly fallen out of favor with captain Virat Kohli.
Before the Champions Trophy, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) advertised for the post of India Head Coach.
Reports have suggested an alleged rift between Virat Kohli and Kumble. According to sources, in the last Test against Australia in Dharamshala, which India won, Kumble had strongly backed the inclusion of chinaman bowler Kuldeep Yadav in place of the injured Kohli. But Kohli was unaware of it and the decision caught the skipper by surprise. Kohli and some other team players said they were not comfortable with the working style of coach Kumble.
The former India captain and spin legend
Apart from Kumble, Virender Sehwag, former Australian fast bowler and Sunrisers Hyderabad coach Tom Moody, Englishman Richard Pybus, former India cricketer Dodda Ganesh, and domestic veteran Lalchand Rajput have applied for the job. The cricket advisory committee (CAC) trio of Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, and VVS Laxman is likely to meet this week. All candidates will be interviewed by the CAC.
The CAC will have to make a decision close to the end of the Champions Trophy, 18 June because India is set to play a limited-over series in West Indies soon after the tournament concludes.
