Steve Smith has been caught on camera calling Murali Vijay a ā€˜f***ing cheatā€™ after the Indian claimed to have poached a catch that was later ruled not out. The incident is just another one in a series that has already seen a number of flashpoints including DRS and mock-gate.

The incident occurred yesterday when Vijay appeared to have caught Josh Hazlewood, who had edged a Ravichandran Ashwin delivery, for Australiaā€™s last wicket during their second innings. Unconvinced by the legality of the catch, the on-field umpires called for a referral. However, before the third umpire could give his decision, Vijay had already left the field and started padding up for the Indian second innings. Once the decision was overturned, he was called back to the field, but Smith who was observing all this from the Aussie dressing room was visibly displeased with Vijay's quick departure to the dressing room and was caught on camera uttering the words ā€˜ ā€˜f***ing cheatā€™.

Living up to the buildup to the final game, the players pulled out all the stops as Ravindra Jadeja and Matthew Wade were involved in a confrontation after the dismissal of Maxwell in the 33rd over. The argument has to be sorted out by the umpires in the presence of Indian skipper Ajinkya Rahane.

Earlier in the series, too, Virat Kohli had stopped short of calling Steve Smith a cheat, after Smith hadĀ sought advice from his dressing room regarding a DRS review. Smith called his actions a ā€˜brain-fadeā€™ but Kohli commented in thought that his actions were against the spirit of the game, saying ā€œThereā€™s a line that you donā€™t cross on the cricket field, sledging and playing against the opponents is different. I donā€™t want to mention the word, but it falls into that bracket. I would never do something like that on the cricket field,ā€ after Indiaā€™s victory in the Bangalore Test.Ā
