The Sri Lanka Cricket has called back Angelo Matthews and Asela Gunaratne from the ongoing IPL to join national team's preparations for the upcoming Champions Trophy starts on 1st of June in England. Sri Lanka will play their opener against South Africa on 3rd June at Kennington Oval in London.

Angelo Matthews is named as the captain of the 15-man Sri Lankan squad chosen for the Champions Trophy. The 15-man squad also includes all-rounder Asela Gunaratne.

The SLC is leaving no stone unturned to make their upcoming campaign a successful one and have called back both Matthews and Gunaratne midway through the IPL to strengthen their preparation for the mega ICC event. One of the administrators took to twitter to break the news of Gunaratne being called back on May 1 itself from the IPL.

The Sri Lankan skipper Angelo Matthews will continue his stay in India until the 9th of May before heading back home. The administrator tweeted,"Sri Lanka recall Angelo Mathews (9th May) and Asela (01 May) from IPL to prepare for Champions Trophy. Malinga to play entire IPL #SriLanka."

Angelo Matthews has been a regular face in the IPL since its inception and is currently a member of the Delhi Daredevils franchise.

Gunaratne, on the other hand, bagged his first IPL contract this year with the Mumbai Indians owing to his splendid international performance against South Africa and Australia. The all-rounder did not feature in the playing XI this season for the Mumbai Indians.
