Kolkata traveled an incredible 18,530 km to play their matches during the seven weeks of the IPL whereas Delhi covered almost half the distance with 9655 km. KKR were the only team that traveled over 14000 km, with the total distance of the other franchises being within 5000km of each other's mark.

As per a report in the Indian Express, Kolkata bore the brunt of poor scheduling and traveled around 19,000 km. This, however, is due to the fact that the Knight Riders operate from one of the Eastern-most parts of the country with no other teams close-by. While Mumbai have Pune, Punjab have Delhi, and Bengaluru have Hyderabad, Kolkata stands alone. This results in them having to travel more distance than the other teams because of the to and fro nature of the IPL schedule.

When compared to the other teams, defending Champions Sunrisers Hyderabad were second on the list having covered 13,178 kms, while Kings XI Punjab (11,936), Gujarat Lions (11, 441), Mumbai Indians (11,420), and Royal Challengers Bangalore (11,383) were all in the 11,000 range. Rising Pune Supergiant and Delhi Daredevils were the only ones on the list who managed to travel less than 10,000 km with the former covering 9700 km and the latter 9655 kms.

But it isn't just the franchises and the players who suffer due to the intense scheduling of the cash-rich league. The National team has had to bear the brunt of the scheduling as well with the Indian team struggling to perform in the tournaments following the IPL. The Men in Blue were not even close to playing at the level that is expected from them in the 2009 and 2010 World Twenty20s and were whitewashed 4-0 by England in 2011.
