ICC Test Rankings: Kagiso Rabada surpasses Ravichandran Ashwin, Rangana Herath
South Africa pacer Kagiso Rabada has gained two slots to reach a career-best third position in the latest ICC Test rankings, which confirmed today. Rabada’s promotion meant Ravichandran Ashwin slipped one spot to fourth, while Rangana Herath moved to the fifth position in the rankings.
Rabada’s third ten-wicket haul helped him grab career-best third position on ICC Test rankings for bowlers. He was picked as the player of the match in the second Test of the recently concluded two-match Test series against Bangladesh, which the hosts won 2-0. The 22-year-old grabbed five wickets in each innings which helped him to produce 10/63 in the match against Bangladesh in Bloemfontein and guided the Proteas to an innings and 254 runs victory.
With 876 points, the South African player surpassed India's Ravichandran Ashwin (852 points) and spinner Rangana Herath (833 points) of Sri Lanka. Now, he is only eight points behind second-placed India spinner Ravindra Jadeja (884) and 20 behind top-ranked James Anderson (896) of England.
Along with Rabada, his new-ball partner Duanne Olivier, Wayne Parnell, and Andile Phehlukwayo were the other Proteas players who moved up in the rankings as they reached 48th, 60th, and 93rd position respectively.
In the Test rankings of the batsman, Indian player Cheteshwar Pujara remains in the fourth position and skipper Virat Kohli in the sixth spot. Though India has not played a Test recently, Lokesh Rahul and Ajinkya Rahane gained a place each to reach eighth and ninth in the rankings.
Pakistan pacer Wahab Riaz's five wickets in the match helped him overtake Indian pacer Umesh Yadav to take the 24th position, while Haris Sohail has gained 35 places to reach the 83rd spot.
