Joe Root has taken Virat Kohli's 'mic drop’ celebration sportingly by stating that it adds to ‘the spectacle of Test cricket’. Root had done the celebration when England beat India in the ODI series and Kohli repaid the debt when he managed to run out the English skipper during the first Test.

During the ODI series, Joe Root had animatedly dropped his bat to celebrate the century he scored in the match. The 'mic drop’ act performed by Virat Kohli was a response to Root's original gesture.

“I did not see it in the middle. Saw it last night after day’s play. It adds to the whole spectacle of Test cricket. Gives a bit of humour to it. It also makes it for a very entertaining series. Let’s see how things pan out over the course of the five Tests,” Root said in an interaction with Sky Sports.

Kohli's epic celebration was seen after his direct throw from the mid-wicket run out Root. Till then, Root had added more than a centurt of runs along with Jonny Bairstow on the first day of the Test at Edgbaston on Wednesday. Root also cleared the chaos with Bairstow that led to his dismissal.

“It was a disappointing last session but for majority of the day we played some good cricket. And that is what we have got to take into today. We had good partnerships on a wicket that did a bit all day. That gives our bowlers a lot of confidence,” Root said.

“It was a human error. It happens unfortunately. You hear a call and you trust your mate. It happens. I could have easily said no (to the second run) as well. No hard feelings there,” he added.
