Virat Kohli feels that his kock in the first Test of India’s tour of England has been the second best of his Test career after Adelaide 2014. He also added that his motive was to use the experience of taking the Indian team far and making the innings deep so as to put the team in a good position.

The second day of the first Test match started off with three major blows for India as young English pacer Sam Curran managed to dismiss the top three of the Indian batting line up within a space of only eight balls. However, Kohli took up the challenge of standing like a wall and turned the game in India’s favours as India finished with a quite impressive score of 274 runs. Kohli also managed to score his 22nd Test century, his first in England.

While this was indeed a difficult effort by the Indian skipper, Kohli ranked his century in Adelaide back in 2014 as his best and yesterday’s knock following that. Kohli’s knock of 141 runs against Australia had not only bailed India out of the soup, but also made sure that they came tantalizingly close to beat Australia on their home soil.

“It was difficult, but I told myself that it was important to enjoy this moment and consider a challenge to take the team far and the innings deep. It was a test of physical and mental strength and I'm glad that we could come close to their total and we're pretty much in the game. When you help the team that way, it obviously feels great.”

"I'm not too sure, but this could come in second to Adelaide. It (Adelaide) still remains very special to me, because it was the second innings and we were chasing a target, wherein I had total clarity that we are going for the target. Not once did I think otherwise. That was a beautiful zone to be in, but today I'm very happy and grateful for having this opportunity to help the team this way and pull us back in the Test and compete. That's what we're here to do. We're here to compete. We're here to fight and we will continue doing that,” Kohli told Sky Sports.

Kohli also mentioned that how he is always unaware of how the media and the world criticises or reacts to his performances.

“I've mentioned these things in the pressers that I don't see or read what people write about me. People think that I'm lying, but I genuinely have no idea what people are saying. I try to prepare the best way possible that I can and help my team as much as possible”

He also mentioned about the difficulties he faced due to James Anderson’s whipping deliveries and that he felt disappointed as well as relieved due to the catches dropped by the Englishmen in the slips. He also praised his lower order teammates who provided a crucial support to the Indian skipper.

“I have to laud the tail as well. Hardik batted really well after we were five wickets down. Then, the way Ishant Sharma and Umesh Yadav applied themselves, I think it was an outstanding effort from them and I have to give a lot of credit to them for getting us this close. They stuck in there, supported me really well and I'm very proud of both of them and happy with the effort,” Kohli concluded.
