Former Windies cricketer Vivian Richards has stated that Indian skipper Virat Kohli plays a similar game to that of his and added that he is a big fan of the Indian captain. Kohli had recently received some flak for his aggressive behaviour during the second Border-Gavaskar Test in Perth.

Indian skipper Virat Kohli, in recent times, has been accumulating praise from various quarters for his consistency to score runs. Now another cricketing great Vivian Richards has compared the Indian captain to himself and even declared that he is a big Kohli fan. Richards even supported Kohli’s on-field aggression and stated that it sometimes helps the team.

Kohli got into a verbal duel with Australian captain Tim Paine, in the second Border-Gavaskar Trophy match, at Perth on various occasions. He was also very aggressive in his celebrations at the fall of the opposition wicket.

“Kohli is aggressive. I am a big fan of him. I like good batsman and good aggression. And I like the fact that someone can play Australia like that. I think Virat Kohli is going to give it back to Australia this time. Virat is special and I like that game.

“Virat is good. You are good if you can only reply. If you are not good you can’t reply. Virat is good in that sense,” Richards added.

“I also played the same game. Can you imagine Viv and Virat playing in the same team?

Richards also credited the Indian Premier League(IPL), which has already hosted eleven seasons, to have boosted the cricket infrastructure in India.

“Indian infrastructure have improved. IPL has helped in a big way. It has brought money and the Indian team has got substance. But I think India needs to win overseas and still there is a lot of ground to cover”, he added.

Sir Viv also went on to explain the difference between the Indian teams that his West Indies sides faced in the 80s to the one that has become a force to be reckoned with.

“Earlier, India used to play with four spinners. They now have four fast bowlers. It is good that things have changed. India realised it needs that attitude. But India still get to do well in overseas,” Richards told PTI.
