Lance Klusener believes that Hardik Pandya has it in him to be a great all-rounder after watching his performance in the first Test in Cape Town. Klusener also added that India need to learn a lot of lessons after the recent loss and encouraged Virat Kohli to find his form to achieve better results.

After a disappointing end which saw India succumb to a 72-run loss in a much-hyped encounter in Cape Town, the visitors will look to analyze where they faltered. A dismal batting performance by the top batting order is what it will ultimately boil down to with the likes of Kohli, Cheteshwar Pujara, Murali Vijay, Rohit Sharma failing to fire on all cylinders. Amidst the disappointment, the performance of the young and flamboyant Hardik Pandya came as a reminder of his explosive talent in the game. His figures of 93 off 95 balls and 2-27 almost single-handedly saved India’s blushes on the second day of the Test match. Former South African all-rounder Lance Klusener had nothing but praise for Pandya.

"I thought his knock in India's first innings was fantastic. His batting was excellent in the way he reversed pressure and put it back on South Africa. He is going to be fantastic for India. He is still developing and I think if he could add another yard of pace to his bowling, he would become a truly amazing all-rounder," Klusener said in an interview to PTI.

Pandya has seen a seamless transition from the IPL to the International stage and has become as an integral part of the Indian team now. Having already scored his maiden Test century in Sri Lanka, along with two half-centuries to go with that in short span of four Test matches, the youngster is on the right track to success.

"All the signs are there that he is developing into a fantastic all-round prospect. Sure, he is bound to fail a few times the way he plays, but it is better to encourage that positive approach than reel him in.

"So, he is in good company, whether he plays for Mumbai Indians in IPL or in this Indian team, he is surrounded by a lot of good people. It is their responsibility to nurture him," Klusener added.

A disappointing result seen the visitors fall prey to the dominant South African pace department, as the batting order failed to perform when it mattered most. Klusener identified Kohli’s failure with the bat as a major reason for the setback.

“If India want to do well in the remaining two matches, (Virat) Kohli needs to score runs. He is the best batsman in the side and when he doesn’t score, a negative mindset is created in the team. Others may feel when the best player in the team is not good enough to score runs, then how can they survive in these conditions. So, I hope the captain will lead from the from the front in the next match and set up the series for an exciting finish. Let me tell you, he is well capable of doing that,” Klusener said on the situation.
