Reports | Afghanistan to play first-ever Test against India in Bengaluru

The Indian cricket board and the Afghanistan cricket board are expected to make a joint declaration after a meeting on Tuesday that Bengaluru would host Afghanistan’s first ever Test against India in June. Last month, India had announced that the country will host Afghanistan’s maiden Test.

In recent times, Afghanistan have made headlines for all the wrong reasons - internal and security issues. But despite that, the national cricket team have managed to give their country something to cheer about. After some impressive performances in the limited overs format, the team, along with Ireland, were handed Test status in June last year. The respective cricket boards joined the International Cricket Council as full members and became the 11th and 12th Test playing nations.

India have always been huge supporters of Afghanistan cricket as they allowed the side to use the Greater Noida Stadium for their home matches and the BCCI have again extended their helping hand to Afghanistan by offering to host their first-ever Test match.

Even in the Indian Premier League, Afghanistan players like Rashid Khan, Mohammad Nabi got a chance to display their skills and impressed one and all, particularly Rashid who picked up 17 wickets in just 14 matches. They both were the first two Afghani cricketers to play in the cash-rich league which inspired the other players as 13 players from the country registered themselves for the IPL auction on January 27-28 in Bengaluru.

UPDATE: The news has now been confirmed by the BCCI.
