Virender Sehwag : Virat Kohli needs some players to point out his mistakes
Virender Sehwag has expressed his views on Virat Kohli’s captaincy stating that he needs some players who can up to his decisions and point out his mistakes on the field. Sehwag has also added that Kohli’s captaincy is affected by his own expectations from other players to score runs like him.
All the excitement and expectations that had built surrounding India’s tour to South Africa ahead of the series has now turned into ashes as India desperately try to prevent a whitewash at the hands of the Proteas. Former Indian batsman Virender Sehwag, who had criticized India’s poor team selection during the second Test, has now pointed out that Kohli enjoys a supreme power in the team that prevents any players from questioning his moves.
"I think, Virat Kohli needs some players who can point out his mistakes on the field. "Every team has four-five players who advise the skipper and help him avoid mistakes on the field. I don't see that in the current Indian squad. There's no one in the squad who can challenge Kohli's selection decision in the dressing room. No player is up to his standard," Sehwag said in a show on India TV.
Kohli took charge of the Test captaincy back in 2014 and has led 34 games so far, scoring 3361 runs at an average of 65.90, which include 14 centuries and 5 half-centuries. After failing in the first two-innings against South Africa in the Newlands Test, he played a 153-run knock in Centurion but unfortunately, his effort went in vain as he couldn't find any support from other batsmen.
After the match, the India skipper had blamed the batsmen for the loss as they didn’t show any fighting spirit. Sehwag, however, feels that Kohli expect the same kind of determination and commitment from other players but not all his players have reached the same level as him.
"Virat Kohli has reached a level where he can play well in adverse situations and he expects the same from the rest of India squad. However, other players in the squad haven't reached the stature where Kohli already is. This is affecting Kohli's captaincy," the former swashbuckling opener said.

Despite being experienced, India’s other batsmen have failed to answer South Africa’s pace attack. According to Sehwag, all Kohli wants is to see other players contribute fearlessly like him and the former Indian opener emphasized on the need for the teamwork.
"Kohli is just asking them to make runs like him. And there's nothing wrong with it. I remember, when Sachin Tendulkar was the captain, he used to ask other batsmen to score runs. If I can score, then why can't you?"
"It's important is to sit together and talk to make a strategy for the upcoming Test. No single player can lead you to victory, teamwork is important. Every player has to contribute," Sehwag added.
