India vs Bangladesh | It was clinical and complete team effort, says Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma has called India's six-wicket win against Bangladesh in the second match of the tri-nation series Nidahas Trophy as a clinical and complete team effort. The stand-in skipper has also praised the bowlers for executing the plans well but also emphasized on the need of improving fielding.

After outplaying South Africa in the limited overs-series, India failed to maintain that momentum in the series opener of the ongoing Nidahas Trophy as they lost the game against Sri Lanka by five wickets. However, they corrected their errors and managed to register a win in the tri-series after thrashing Bangladesh by six wickets.

India won the toss and invited Bangladesh to bat first but the Tigers could only manage to add 139 runs to the scoreboard in their allotted 20 overs. The Men in Blue easily chased down the target with six wickets and eight balls to spare. This win was even more special as it wasn't a one-man effort but rather a full-fledged effort by the entire team. Shikhar Dhawan scored 55 off 43 deliveries but before him, the bowling department restricted the opponent team on a low score. Jaydev Unadkat (3/38) was the highest wicket-taker followed by Vijay Shankar (2/32), Yuzvender Chahal (1/19), and Shardul Thakur (1/25).

"I think it was a great performance, something that was expected from us. Right from the start to the end, it was clinical and a complete team effort," he said at the post-match presentation ceremony as quoted by IANS.

"We looked into what went wrong in the game against Sri Lanka and we thought hitting the length was the option for us. We wanted their batsmen to take on the longer boundaries. Bowlers executed plans very well. We kept it simple and got the basics right, which was missing in the first game."

In the recent past, Team India have boasted of one of the best fielding units in the world. However, in the yesterday’s game, India showed a poor example of fielding. During Bangladesh’s innings, the Indian players dropped as many as four catches which helped Bangladesh go past the 100-run mark.

"Catching is something where there's always room for improvement. We want to get better as a fielding side. We are much better than that," he stated.
