After the Indian cricket board, Delhi Daredevils has decided to keep a close eye on the Mohammed Shami controversy as the camp for the IPL will be starting at the end of the month. The BCCI had decided to withhold his official annual contract after his wife’s infidelity and fixing allegations.

Hasin Jahan, Shami’s wife, accused him of having an extra-marital affair and domestic violence through social media. The Bengal pacer denied all the allegations in a post on Twitter and called it a conspiracy against him. The controversy didn’t stop here as Jahan came up with a new allegation on a TV interview where she claimed that Shami had taken money from a Pakistani woman named Alishba and may be involved in a match-fixing scandal. The Indian cricketer again refuted all the claims and said he would rather die than fix a match. The case has been registered at Kolkata’s Jadhavpur Police Station on the basis of Jahan’s written complaint.

After the matter came in the media, BCCI decided to withhold Shami's name from the official annual contracts list and now Indian Premier League franchise Delhi Daredevils also decided to wait on the police investigation developments and the top officials are set to meet BCCI to discuss on the situation.

"Look Daredevils management can't take any unilateral decision in this matter. All players who play in the IPL have a tripartite contract involving the franchise, BCCI, and the player. Yes, we are well aware about the sensitive situation and we are having discussions with top BCCI officials. There is a clause about any player bringing disrepute but it is for the lawyers to interpret it," a senior franchise official said on Friday as quoted by PTI.

Daredevils are now waiting for the BCCI’s legal opinion about whether they should allow the Indian bowler to join their camp ahead of the start of the 2018 IPL. Many big business houses involved in the tournament and for them, their image is the most important thing. The GMR group had just entered into an equal partnership with JSW group who own Bengaluru FC.

"In these sensitive times, when people are raising their voice against domestic abuse and violence, unless Shami comes out clean, the franchise's image will also take a beating. If Delhi Daredevils are worried, they certainly have reasons to do so. They have created a brand and would be protective about that," a senior BCCI official said.

There is a chance that acting president CK Khanna, acting secretary Amitabh Chaudhary, treasurer Aniruddh Chaudhry, and CEO Rahul Johri will discuss the Shami matter on the sidelines of the captain's conclave in Mumbai on March 12.
