Irfan Pathan has been highly impressed by Sunrisers Hyderabad’s bowling line-up and stated that even the absence of their bowling spearhead, Bhuvaneshwar Kumar, did not deter their performance. He further went on to consider them as the “strongest bowling attack” in this season of the IPL.

A closer look at the Sunrisers gives a sense of all-bases-covered, despite their batting unit lacking the cutting edge after David Warner’s untimely suspension following the Sandpaper-gate incident that rocked the Australian cricket altogether. However, their bowlers and fielders jumped to the party soon enough, making a statement regarding the importance of bowlers in a format as fragile as T20.

And even though the Hyderabad-based franchise lacked their bowling spearhead Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who succumbed to a back injury, and their overseas success Billy Stanlake, who suffered a finger fracture, they continued to shine through Sandeep Sharma, Siddarth Kaul, and Barinder Sran. And Irfan Pathan has been quite amazed by the exceptional play put up by the Sunrisers’ bowlers in this season of the IPL.

"Sunrisers Hyderabad...the way they have performed without Bhuvaneshwar, who is a big bowler...According to me, in the Indian team, if anyone is at par with (Jasprit) Bumrah in ODI cricket, it is Bhuvneshwar Kumar," Irfan Pathan told TOI.

"They have fast bowlers- Siddharth Kaul and Sandeep Sharma, but no big international name in their pace department...Only Rashid Khan (from Afghanistan) and Shakib (Al Hasan). But the way they have bowled is impressive. But with limited resources, the young boys are bowling well in right areas and doing well.”

The former Indian pacer also recognized the distinguished performance of Mayank Markande, the young Mumbai Indians leg-spinner. In his first match against CSK, he was reported to have bowled nine googlies and also picked up three wickets from the same which put CSK in a tight position and proved him worthy as the Mumbai Indians’ find of the season.

"One thing for a leg-spinner is to bowl in right areas and he (Markande) is bowling consistently in the right areas. A leg-spinner has variations, but to have the control and to bowl in the (right) areas is not an easy task and this boy has done that," Pathan added.
