Former Indian batsman Vinod Kambli sounded confident that India would win the Test series in Australia in the absence of two frontline batsmen in Steve Smith and David Warner. After the T20 series against Windies concludes, the Indian team will travel to Australia for a two-month long tour.

After the last away disaster in England, where the Indian team lost both the ODI and Test series, the Men in Blue will be moving for a sterner test down under. They would start with three T20 matches followed by four Test matches and finally three ODI matches in a two-month long tour. With a depleted Australian side, India have many experts backing them to beat the Kangaroos in their own den and the latest one to echo the same is Vinod Kambli.

"Our chances are bright. We are going to win the series (in Australia). These two batsmen (Smith and Warner) are not there, so take full advantage," Kambli told PTI Tuesday on the sidelines of the second camp of the Tendulkar- Middlesex Global Academy.

Three frontline Australian players in David Warner, Steve Smith and Cameron Bancroft wouldn't be able to represent their country as they continue their ban from all international and domestic matches due to their involvement in ball tampering issue that happened in South Africa earlier this year. On the other hand, Indian skipper has been on a rollicking form, virtually breaking a cricketing record in every other match he has been playing. The former left-hander also praised the Indian skipper and commended the latter for his work ethics.

"He (Kohli) is hungry for runs. And the hunger to do well, that is what is very good to see in him. The work ethics plus the way he is on the field, he is giving his 110 percent. So the main thing which I like about his playing and batting is the hunger for runs, he is very hungry."

Kambli also had words of praise and advice for the young Prithvi Shaw, who made a dream debut in the Tests against Windies scoring a blistering century in his first innings.

"He is a stroke player, goes after the ball and likes to get runs. In fact he likes to play his shots. I have always spoken to him (Shaw) and I just said to him, 'play your natural game'. I said 'don't think too much, just go out there, enjoy your game and just be confident'. That is very important, when (he goes) for tours like Australia or plays anywhere else. I hope that he does the same," he explained.
