Prithvi Shaw suffers freak injury during warm-up game; carried off field on a stretcher
Prithvi Shaw had to be carried off the field on a stretcher after he suffered a nasty ankle injury while fielding against Cricket Australia XI at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Thursday. BCCI later informed that Shaw was taken to the hospital before he returned for the lunch session on crutches.
Preparation for the upcoming Test series against Australia is in full flow as the Indian cricket team play Cricket Australia XI in the only warm-up game prior to the series opener on December 6. However, things could become complicated for Virat Kohli & Co. who will have wait on the fitness of Prithvi Shaw after the youngster suffered a freak ankle injury while fielding at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Thursday.
The youngster had to be stretchered off the field as he appeared to have rolled his left ankle while attempting a catch at the deep mid-wicket boundary. The 19-year-old took the catch off Cricket Australia XI opener Max
The six meant that the Aussie batsman registered his half-century, but the focus was on Shaw who immediately grabbed his left ankle in pain as the team medical staff from both sides rushed of the teenager.
The BCCI later updated that Shaw was taken to a local hospital for scans after which he returned to the SCG during the afternoon session albeit on crutches. Shaw, who made a Test century on debut last month against the West Indies, hit an impressive 66 from 69 balls on day two of the warm-up game.
Update : After Medical scan, BCCI revealed that Shaw underwent scans this morning and the reports revealed a lateral ligament injury. Shaw will be unavailable for the First Test against Australia in Adelaide. He will undergo an intensive rehabilitation program to hasten the recovery and be available for selection at the earliest.
