Rohit Sharma lavished praise on young spinning revelation Rahul Chahar, who was influential in Mumbai Indians’ recent 40-run win over Delhi Capitals at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium on Thursday. Chahar ended the game with figures 3/19 after bowling his four-over spell for the visiting team.

Mumbai Indians find themselves in the second position of the IPL rankings table after having pulled off a convincing 40-run win over a young and motivated Delhi Capitals team at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium in Delhi on Thursday. After an impressive batting display in the first innings that led the visitors to a total of 168/5, the Mumbai side produced a disciplined bowling performance to outsmart the home team as Delhi could only score 128 after 20 overs losing nine wickets in the process.

MI skipper Rohit Sharma singled out 19-year old spinner Rahul Chahar for special praise after the latter put in yet another impressive display in the ongoing season of the IPL. Chahar ended the match with figures 3/19 after his four-over spell as he picked up the important wicket of Shikhar Dhawan, who looked in good touch.

“Rahul was there with us even last year, we wanted to get him in where Mayank was playing,” Rohit said after the match. “He has a good attitude and is clear with what he wants to do. They (DC) had left-handers and Rahul bowls confidently to left-handers, which is what he told me before the innings,” Sharma said at a post-match conference.

The India opener further added that he knew his side’s total of 168 was good enough to defend on a slow Delhi pitch. Sharma revealed that he was confident that his bowlers would do their job.

“After the first two overs that we played, we thought 140 was a good score. Quinny (Quinton de Kock) and me had a talk and then luckily towards the end we had wickets in hand and could use our power-hitters to play just the way they’ve been playing. We knew we had the spinners, who would do their job perfectly. Even in the last ODI against Australia we found it tough to chase. I knew that if we got 140-150, we had the bowlers to keep us in the game,” Sharma, who scored 30 last night, added.
