Rohit Sharma has said that he and Shikhar Dhawan know well that they have to lay a strong foundation for the team in the start at the World Cup. He also said that Indian team is like a fortress, where all the 15 players believe in themselves and any outside opinion doesn’t matter or affect the side.

Placed second in the ODI rankings with 8508 points and a rating of 120, India’s part would be very crucial in the upcoming ICC World Cup 2019, which would be held at England & Wales from May 30. The Men in Blue would be the most anticipated side in the extravaganza with a wealth of top cricketers taking the field.

India would be starting with two of the world’s best openers in Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan with their average being 47.4 and 44.62 respectively. And Sharma has said that he and his opening partner Dhawan know their part of giving the side the start based on which the rest of the side would capitalize on.

"I am aware of my role. Shikhar Dhawan and I know we have to lay the foundation. I enjoy the challenge. I am in the best mental space as a batsman. With maturity, I have been able to understand my game better. I have learnt from my mistakes in the past," Rohit Sharma said, reported India Today.

The two-time World Cup winners have an exceptional reputation in ODI formats and are one of the favourites to make it knockouts this time, if not lifting the title. And Sharma felt that the Indian team squad is a secure one with outside opinions not bothering at all.

“The team is like a fortress. There are 15 people inside it and whatever anyone can say from the outside, the 15 inside will not get influenced." the Indian team vice-captain said.

India also have one of the most bowling attacks in the likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Mohammed Shami and others. And while not all of them are currently doing well in IPL, Sharma stated that it didn’t matter.

“Certainly, this is one of the most complete bowling attacks. I am not bothered about Kuldeep Yadav's lack of success in the Indian Premier League because franchise cricket and playing for India are very different," Rohit said.

Bumrah has been one of the biggest revelations for team India with the side took 85 wickets in 49 matches with an average of 22.15. And Rohit couldn’t stop praising his Mumbai teammate stating the bowler understands the mindsets of batsmen.

"The secret to Jasprit Bumrah's success is he understands the batsman very very well and keeps it as simple as possible. While he has all the skills and all the balls in his repertoire, he keeps it very simple in his mind."
