India vs Windies | He bowls really quick on good bowling surfaces, Bhuvneshwar Kumar on Navdeep Saini
From Bhuvneshwar Kumar to Virat Kohli, everyone was all praises about debutant Navdeep Saini, who picked up three wickets on Saturday. In the post-match press conference, Bhuvi suggested that Saini is capable of bowling at a speed of around 145-150 kmph, when the surface is good for bowling.
Navdeep Saini had a dream debut against the Windies on Saturday where his 3/17 helped India seal a convincing victory in the first T20I at Lauderhill, Florida. His brilliant spell included a double-wicket over where he dismissed Nicholas Pooran and Shimron Hetmyer to give India the edge. Looking at his form, captain Virat Kohli trusted Saini with the final over of the innings and the pacer repaid the faith by removing the top-scorer Kieron Pollard(49) with a slower delivery.
Together Saini and Kumar (2/19) with the help of other bowlers, restricted West Indies to 95/9 at the Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground in Lauderhill. After India’s victory, Kumar heaped praises the 26-year-old Haryana pacer and vouched that the ability to clock 150 kph at will.
"He bowls really quick and the wicket was a bit slow but he's a quick bowler, he bowls around 145-150kmh. So we'll get to see him bowl really quick on good bowling wickets," said Bhuvneshwar Kumar at the press conference, as quoted by India Today.
Bhuvi further spoke about Saini’s journey and consistency throughout domestic cricket and the IPL, and that the debutant has abundant confidence in the international stage.
"He bowled really well. The most important thing is that he has proven himself at various stages... domestic cricket... IPL and now for India. Just before coming here, he played for India A in West Indies. He did well. Yes, you get confidence when you do well at the international level. Before coming here, he was confident," the 29-year-old right-arm pacer added.
Having taken a 1-0 lead in the three-match T20I series, India will be hoping to seal the series when they face West Indies in Florida in the 2nd T20I on Sunday.
