Coaching contracts of Team India to begin from September 5
The contracts of the newly elected members, some retained staff and some recruited, of Team India's support staff, will come into effect on September 5. Along with head coach Ravi Shastri, who was reappointed, the support staff will also hold office till the T20 World Cup in 2021.
The Indian selectors panel, led by MSK Prasad, had shortlisted the candidates for Team India's support staff on August 22 and now it has been confirmed that the newly-appointed members will have their contracts commenced on September 5. The Committee of Administrators (CoA) is expected to give all the necessary approvals by then.
While Bharat Arun (bowling coach) and R Sridhar (fielding coach) have been re-appointed just like head coach Ravi Shastri, former national selector Vikram Rathour will join the support staff as the new batting coach and will be replacing Sanjay Bangar. All staff including the chief coach and the support staff will hold office till the conclusion of the World T20 in 2021.
A BCCI official has confirmed that the new contracts would come into effect from September 5 and by that time the Indian team, which is currently touring the Caribbean, is also expected to return on the same day as the ongoing Test series will conclude on September 3.
"The background check and all is done and just the CoA's go-ahead is left and once that is finished, the coaches will be handed their contracts. The strength and conditioning coaches are currently undergoing their practical assessment at the National Cricket Academy (NCA). So once that is done, all the signings will be done together by the three-member committee. The contracts come into effect from September 5 so we still have some time to complete the process," the BCCI official was quoted by IANS.
