Tim Paine’s decisions in the ongoing Test have earned him a lot of plaudits and at the same time, massive criticism thanks to his declaration on Day 2, leaving Warner stranded on 334*. However, he surprised the commentators and the crowd, when operated Smith and Labuschagne in pair with the ball.

Steve Smith and Labuschagne’s partnership was one that much-awaited with both the batsmen in prime-form. However, what the crowd did not expect that their partnership would emerge with the ball, as Smith and Labuschagne operated in tandem post-tea on Day 3. Smith opened the session with his gentle leggie, as Lyon was set to bowl from the other end.

Paine, however, had other plans as he yelled “You are bowling mate” to Labuschagne as the right-hander was left stunned by the decision. The 25-year-old was all set to take his place at Forward Short Leg with Lyon picking the cherry only for the skipper to change his mind. Paine’s attempts to ask the 25-year-old left the commentators in splits.

Labuschagne, who was padded and guarded up had no other choice but to quickly remove the pads in the middle of the pitch as he picked up the cherry from the umpire. The centurion was heard crying “You told me that I was done.”

The leggie bowled two overs before Paine brought on his mainstay bowlers Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc to pick up the wicket of the well-settled batsman Yasir Shah. It was not to be, as Yasir Shah got to a well-deserved hundred in Pakistan’s first innings of the second Test.
