I think MS Dhoni will be back for T20 World Cup, says Dwayne Bravo
West Indian all-rounder Dwayne Bravo reckons his CSK skipper MS Dhoni will return to the Indian side for the T20 World Cup coming up next year in Australia. Bravo himself confirmed his return to the T20I format and expressed his eagerness to help the team’s title defence Down Under.
MS Dhoni has made himself unavailable for national team selection since India’s heartbreaking loss to New Zealand in the World Cup final earlier this year. Though Dhoni has refused to comment on any questions regarding his future till January, his IPL teammate Dwayne Bravo believes Dhoni will be back in time for India’s T20 campaign in Australia.
Recently, India's chief selector MSK Prasad too commented on Dhoni's future in the Indian national team, with Prasad commenting that the CSK skipper is in contention for a slot in the Indian squad for T20 World Cup down under.
“Dhoni has never retired. So I think he will be there at the World T20. MS has never let things outside cricket influence him and he has taught us the same and told us to never panic and trust our abilities,” Bravo told TOI.
A former national team captain himself, Bravo has decided to come out of T20 international retirement and said that he will be available for selection in the lead-up to the West Indies’ T20 World Cup title defence in October 2020.
“I feel good physically and I still have a lot to offer. I had retired because of off-field politics. But there is a change of leadership both on and off the field. So I felt that it is a good time to come back,” he said.
Despite a narrow series-loss against India last week, Bravo believes that the team is headed in the right direction under the captaincy of Kieron Pollard and head coach Phil Simmons.
“Pollard knows how to inspire players. What Pollard and Simmons have ensured is that they have given plenty of freedom to youngsters. There is room to make mistakes and learn from them. This freedom to express themselves is making the youngsters play a fearless brand of cricket and that is the way forward. We have decent pacers and exuberant batsmen too. What they need is game-time and guidance,” Bravo added.
