Sachin Tendulkar has revealed that Jasprit Bumrah’s success has not surprised him as the pacer has always worked hard on improving his game. The legendary Indian batsman also praised Rishabh Pant who had a great Test series in Australia, finishing as the second highest run scorer.

After breaking into the Test team early in 2018, Jasprit Bumrah had a dream run last year as he ended up with an astonishing 78 wickets across all formats and became the highest wicket taker of the calendar year. Bumrah is currently ranked No.1 in the ICC ODI rankings and is guaranteed a spot in the Indian squad for the 2019 World Cup.

Tendulkar also added that he had foreseen the Gujarat bowler’s success having spent time with him and seen his sincere and honest efforts to learn and improve constantly. He also believed that the young pacer would make his mark and he is happy because the outcome was no different.

“I am not surprised by Bumrah’s success. Having spent time with him and seen his sincere and honest efforts to improve and learn, I always knew it was a matter of time before he would rattle the best batsmen in the world. I have seen from close quarters how he looks to improve.

“ His action and deceptive bowling, plus the consistency to take wickets, make him a dangerous bowler. He knows how to execute his plans. Bumrah will be a big threat to the opposition and a great asset to India at the World Cup,” Sachin told The Hindu.

But Bumrah wasn’t the only youngster who impressed last year as Rishabh Pant made a mark for himself with some eye-catching performances in England and Australia. After making his debut against England in Nottingham, the 21 year old scored two centuries and two half centuries in the 9 Tests that he played. In the historic win against Australia, the youngster finished as the second highest run getter behind Cheteshwar Pujara. Tendulkar praised Pant, who was also awarded the ICC Emerging Player for 2018, for his start in the game and felt that he has a great future but shall have to keep his focus to excel on a longer run.

“Rishabh has terrific prospects in international cricket. He has a great future but he must keep his head on his shoulders and look to enjoy his game. If he keeps his focus he will play long because things will happen around his cricket essentially. I have liked his approach and the fact that he is fearless,” Tendulkar added.
