We definitely do not support inappropriate comments, asserts Virat Kohli
Virat Kohli emphasized on the fact that there will be zero-tolerance towards inappropriate comments and behavior in the light of the whole Hardik Pandya - KL Rahul issue. Pandya appeared on talk show - "Koffee with Karan" and was issued a show cause notice for the comments he made during the show.
Hardik Pandya's extravagant lifestyle and flashy fashion choices have led to him being labelled as a ’bad boy’ or ‘ladies man’ off the pitch. However, the Baroda-born youngster took things too far when he appeared on popular talk Koffee with Karan alongside India teammate - KL Rahul.
Meanwhile, Indian skipper Virat Kohli has made it clear that such behaviour will not be tolerated
"From the Indian cricket team point of view, any inappropriate comments that are made in that scenario are something that we definitely don't support and the two concerned players felt what has gone wrong and they have understood the magnitude of what's happened. Definitely, it has to hit anyone hard, they will definitely understand the things that have not gone right.
"We, definitely, as the Indian cricket team do not support views like that and that has been communicated. I can definitely say that as the Indian cricket team and responsible cricketers we definitely don't align with those views and those are purely individual views. We are still waiting for a decision to be made but from the Indian cricket team point of view, this changes nothing in terms of our beliefs in the change room. It does nothing to the spirit that we've been able to create within the change room and these are purely individual opinions and something as I said which is inappropriate," Kohli said at the press conference, reported ESPNCricinfo.
Committee of Administrators (CoA) is in charge of the situation that Pandya is involved in as rumors have emerged that the Mumbai Indians all-rounder will face a two-match ban for his antics off the pitch. However, that will serve as a headache for Kohli given how Hardik is seen as the key to balancing the India line-up as the only fast-bowling all-rounder in the team.
Kohli acknowledged the outcome of the process may require the team to rethink their plans but was confident that with Ravindra Jadeja in the squad, they had the options to cover for Pandya even though the latter is a spin-bowling option.
"From the combination and team balance point of view, yes, you'll have to think about the combination you'll need now. You don't have control over these things so you have to address it the way it unfolds. That's how we are looking at it, the combinations will have to be looked at when the decision comes out and from there on we'll see what needs to be done about the whole situation," Kohli concluded.
