Tom Latham has been recalled to the 14-man ODI squad that will face-off against India after being rested for the recent series win against Sri Lanka. All-rounder Colin de Grandhomme, along with pacer Tim Southee, will also feature for the home team in the upcoming series that starts next week.

The New Zealand national cricket team recently enjoyed a convincing 3-0 ODI series win against Sri Lanka on home soil. Kane Williamson & Co. will certainly look to build on that victory when Virat Kohli-led India travel to Kiwiland in the coming weeks for a five-match ODI series followed by three T20Is.

New Zealand selectors have recalled the likes of Tom Latham and Colin de Grandhomme to the national squad after they were rested for the recently concluded series against Sri Lanka. Latham, who has played a total of 74 ODIs for the national team, will hope to cement his spot in the squad with the upcoming ICC ODI World Cup in mind.

While India are ranked at number two behind England in the ICC ODI Team rankings, New Zealand find themselves at number three on the list. Kiwi coach Gary Stead revealed that the composition of the squad reflected World Cup planning while also giving themselves the best possible chance of winning the series against an in-form Indian team.

“Our two main priorities have been to select and prepare a squad capable of winning what is shaping as a massive series against India, and gathering as much information as possible ahead of the World Cup. Tom and Colin are experienced players in this format and will offer quality in their respective roles,” Stead told AFP sources.

Williamson along with premier pacer Trent Boult, who both sat out the T20I win against Sri Lanka last Friday, will return to the squad for the India series as expected. Meanwhile, spinner Mitchell Santner is also included in the 14-man squad as he made a return to the team last week after being sidelined for a period of 10 months due to an injury.

New Zealand squad: Kane Williamson (capt), Trent Boult, Doug Bracewell, Colin de Grandhomme, Lockie Ferguson, Martin Guptill, Matt Henry, Tom Latham, Colin Munro, Henry Nicholls, Mitchell Santner, Ish Sodhi, Tim Southee, Ross Taylor
