VIDEO | Mushifiqur Rahim left dumbfounded as needless overthrow from Mehidy Hasan costs Bangladesh four runs
Bangladesh's fielding has been under the scanner in the last two matches, with both their catching and ground fielding not living up to the standards. In their match against Pakistan today, Mehidy Hasan further added to their woes as a wayward throw back to the keeper cost his team four extra runs.
In the fifth over of their match against India, Rohit Sharma was batting on 9* when Tamim Iqbal put down a sitter off Mustafizur Rahman's bowling. He then went on to score 95 more runs on top of that - a knock which eventually proved to be the one which knocked Bangladesh out of the World Cup.
One would have hoped Bangladesh to have learned their lessons coming into their match today, but to their dismay, dropped Babar Azam not once, but twice in the span of two overs. Their ground fielding added to their woes, as they ended up giving away plenty of extra runs to Pakistan thanks to sloppy fielding and a few fumbles.
In one such moment, off-spinner Mehidy Hasan ended up gifting four valuable runs to Imam-ul-Haq. who was then batting on 64. In the fourth ball of the 33rd over, Imam came down the track and nudged the ball straight back to Mehidy. However, in an attempt to run Imam out, Mehidy let go a throw so wayward that the keeper Musfiqur Rahim, who dived to his left full stretched, was barely able to get a hand on it.
A helpless Rahim looked at Mehidy in disbelief as the ball raced towards the boundary, costing Bangladesh four extra runs. Ironically, Imam had already made his crease comfortably, and it wouldn't have mattered even if Mehidy had hit the stumps. One thing's for sure, Bangladesh will have a long look at their fielding, once they're eventually done with the ongoing World Cup.
