Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah to be rested for West Indies ODIs and T20Is
Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah are set to be rested for the ODI and T20I series against West Indies while the duo will be available for the two-match Test series which is a part of the World Test championship. The series is set to be played in West Indies and United States starting from August 3.
India are all set to lock horns with West Indies once the World Cup concludes. As per a senior BCCI official, Kohli and Bumrah will be certainly rested and a few senior players may join too. The duo has played a lot of cricket in recent times and with a long World Cup in progress, the workload will only increase.
India, in all likeliness, have made it to the semi-finals and should they make it to the finals, the players will be playing till July 14. The two-match Test series against West Indies is a part of the World Test Championship for which, Kohli and Bumrah will return to the squad before the three-day practice game in Antigua
“Virat and Jasprit will certainly be rested for the three-match T20Is and three-match ODI series. Virat has been playing since the start of Australia series and Bumrah’s workload management is also paramount. They will join the team before the Test series,” a senior BCCI official told PTI.
“With the first Test in Antigua starting August 22, there would be enough time for the key members in the World Cup squad to get much-needed rest,” he added.
Both Kohli and Bumrah have been two integral parts of the line-up and their absence will only give opportunities to some young guns, who have been knocking the door for a while.
