Former India coach John Wright reckons that India will do well in the upcoming ICC World Cup 2019 as they have the best batsman Virat Kohli and best bowler in pacer Jasprit Bumrah. Wright further opined that New Zealand will flourish under captain-cool Kane Williamson in the coming weeks.

Under the tutelage of John Wright, the Indian cricket team made the final of the ICC World Cup in 2003 where they were slated to take on Ricky Ponting-led Australia. However, Sourav Ganguly & Co. were thoroughly outplayed by superior opposition as they fell to a 125-run loss on that day.

16 years later, Wright reckons things could be different this time around for the Indian national team who gear up to play in the upcoming ICC World Cup 2019. The former New Zealand captain talked up India’s chances as he lavished praise on skipper Virat Kohli and pacer Jasprit Bumrah.

"India have been doing well across formats in the last one-and-a half years. There is no reason that they will not be playing a good brand of cricket. They have the best batsman in Virat Kohli and the best bowler in Jasprit Bumrah. Naturally, they will also have some advantage with the presence of these two cricketers. The team is full of dependable, formidable cricketers who know how to perform under pressure," Wright said in a recent interview with TOI.

Wright, who played 149 ODIs for New Zealand and scored 3,891 runs, further opined that his native team will do well like they did in 2015 under the cool and calm leadership of skipper Kane Williamson.

"They will play decent cricket. We all should remember that they reached the final in Melbourne in 2015 but lost to Australia. We also remember that despite being in the semifinals seven times, we have never won the tournament in its 43-year history. Kane Williamson is leading a balanced side. They have the right players for the right positions and the skipper has a good cricket brain and also is very cool under pressure. The team has a good mix of young and experienced cricketers. This core of the side that played the final in 2015 is still there," Wright added.
