T20 World Cup Qualifier | Netherlands seal second win, Kenya lose two in a row

While Scotland bounced back after defeat from Singapore, Papua New Guinea and Jersey kicked off their respective campaigns in the T20 World Cup Qualifiers with comfortable wins over Bermuda and Nigeria respectively. Kenya, meanwhile, suffer their second consecutive defeat in two days.

Papua New Guinea vs Bermuda

Brief scores: PNG 90/0 (10.2 Ovs) beat Bermuda 89 (17.2 Ovs) by 10 wickets

The fifth match of the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup qualifier which was also the starter game of Day 2 of the tournament was played between Papua New Guinea and Bermuda was thoroughly dominated by the former. Both teams opened their World Cup qualifier campaign, on Saturday, with Bermuda being steamrolled for 89 runs in 17.2 overs, a total that Asad Vala and Tony Ura easily chased down in 62 balls.

Jersey vs Nigeria

Brief scores: Nigeria 115/7 (20.0 Ovs) lose to Jersey 184/4 (20.0 Ovs) by 69 runs 

The 6th match of the qualifiers saw Jersey walking over Nigeria at Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi on Saturday. Jersey put up a total of 184-4 in 20 overs with the help of Nick Ferraby and Harrison Carlyon at the start, followed by Jonty Jenner's unbeaten half-century. In response to this Daniel Ajeku started off aggressively hitting 17 off 10 before Elliot Miles got him out after which Nigeria’s case fell weaker and finished 69 runs behind Jersey. 

Netherlands vs Namibia

Brief scores: Namibia 96-all out (19.0 Ovs) lose to Netherlands 140/6 (20.0 Ovs) by 44 runs

Ryan Ten Doeschate shone in Netherlands victory, which looks comfortable if we look at the score but at one point the Dutch were on 64/4 and that’s when Tendo joined in. The all-rounder's 59 off 40 helped Netherlands reach a decent total of 140-6. The Dutch pace attack successfully stranded Namibia at 49-7 by the tenth over and there was no chance for them to get back into the game as they were bowled all out for 96 gifting the dutch their second win in this tournament.

Scotland vs Kenya

Brief scores: Kenya 139/8 (20.0 Ovs)  lose to  Scotland 170/6 (20.0 Ovs) by 31 runs

The Group A match between Scotland and Kenya was carried out at the at ICC Academy Ground No 2, Dubai on Saturday. After facing a shocking defeat against Singapore, Scotland bounced back in the T20 qualifiers with a 170-run total despite seasoned player Collins Obuya picking up two wickets in his three-over spell. In the end, Kenya lost their second consecutive game in this tournament.

United Arab Emirates vs Ireland

Brief scores: UAE 129/5 (17.0 Ovs) beat Ireland 125 (20.0 Ovs) by five wickets

The final fixture of Day 2 of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup qualifier was played at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi between the hosts and Ireland. In the most closely fought game of all the five fixtures of the second day, UAE trumped the European opponent by five wickets with three overs remaining despite Paul Stirling’s 72 off 58.
