PAK vs SL | Players unwilling to tour Pakistan should be barred from PSL, opines Saeed Ajmal
Veteran spinner Saeed Ajmal has stressed that the Sri Lankan players who opted out of the upcoming Pakistan tour should be barred from playing in the Pakistan Super League. The former Pakistan cricketer was 'very hurt' when a bunch of Lankan players pulled out of the tour citing security concerns.
According to Saeed Ajmal, the players from the Sri Lankan side who are unwilling to tour Pakistan owing to security reasons should be barred from participating in the Pakistan Super League (PSL). The former player was furious at the fact that the Lankan players don't believe in the security arrangements made by the Pakistan Cricket Board and government.Â
Ten cricketers from the Sri Lankan side, including Lasith Malinga, Thisara Perera, Akila Dhananjaya, Angelo Mathews, Suranga Lakmal, Dinesh Chandimal, and Dimuth Karunaratne, pulled out from the forthcoming ODI and T20 series in Karachi and Lahore.
“I was very hurt when these Sri Lankan players backed out of the tour because the security situation in our country has improved a lot... Our board or government would never ask anyone to play in Pakistan unless they were not sure they could provide the best security environment,” Ajmal said on GNews channel.
Ajmal has urged the PCB to adopt a stronger stance on teams or refusing to tour Pakistan since the players who can come for PSL games can come on the national tour. Apart from Ajmal, other cricketers like Ramiz Raja, Shahid Afridi have slammed the Lankan players for opting out.
“I think those Sri Lankan players or foreigners who can come for the PSL matches should also tour with their national teams. And if anyone refuses to come with their teams they should not be included in the PSL draft,” Saeed agreed with Faisal’s assertion.
“It hurts because we have had plenty of international cricket and PSL matches in Pakistan in the last two years,” said the off-spinner.
The Sri Lankan board on Thursday confirmed it had got the go-ahead from the defence ministry for the tour and they would leave for the same on September 24.
