Abhishek Sharma might be a baby-faced youngster with a fancy hairstyle, but as Fabian Allen learned today, teammates would be better off not messing with him. After the Jamaican’s unnecessary intervention resulted in a drop catch, a furious Sharma mumbled expletives to remind Allen of his mistake.

Fabian Allen missed the Caribbean Premier League owing to not being able to board the flight to Trinidad on time, and after  quite an unwanted incident with a teammate of his today at the Dubai International Stadium, one feels he would have probably wished to have also missed the flight to Dubai.

With the score at 86/0 after 10 overs, Sunrisers Hyderabad, after opting to bowl first, were at the mercy of young Devdutt Padikkal. The southpaw whacked the SRH bowlers all over the park and in the blink of an eye, he raced off to 53* off just 38 balls. The Orange Army, by then, had already given him one reprieve - on the third ball of the 10th over when Rashid made a meal of a regulation boundary-line catch by misjudging it - and the one thing they needed to ensure was to not give Padikkal ‘yet another’ life. Well, they failed gloriously at doing so.

On the first ball of the 10th over, Padikkal, looking to unleash, decided to slog a length delivery from Vijay Shankar over deep mid-wicket. He threw the kitchen sink at the ball, but a miscue meant that it was headed straight towards the hands of the fielder(s) at the deep.

The enormous air-time on the ball meant that taking the catch was always going to be a tough ask, but to pile more misery on an already-miserable David Warner, the duo of Abhishek Sharma and Fabian Allen, in Pakistan-esque manner, made an absolute meal of the catch to hand Padikkal yet another reprieve.

Sharma and Allen, standing at deep square leg and deep mid-wicket respectively, simultaneously went for the catch and in the process ensured that it landed right in between them. The youngster Sharma looked to go for the catch with his right-hand, but him seeing Allen also approach the ball meant that he needed to pull out in the very last moment to avoid what would have been a horrendous collision.

Both fielders were equally at fault for their grave miscommunication, but the 20-year-old was left livid by the Jamaican’s intervention, and he took out his frustration by mumbling expletives. Worse yet, the bowler, Shankar, started celebrating prematurely, only to be denied by the incompetence of his teammates.

Here is how twitter reacted on it:
