Time and again, sporting decisions have attracted debates and it is no different in the case of cricket. Umpire Yeshwant Barde took his own sweet time to give a decision, only for it to go horribly wrong, during the clash between Punjab Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders at a jampacked Eden Gardens.

Winning the toss and electing to field first backfired initially for Punjab as the opening tag team of Sunil Narine and Phil Salt teed off against the PBKS bowlers. Following a 76-run powerplay, a potential chance of getting the in-form Narine dismissed went begging despite the on-field umpire taking his time to signal him out.

Rahul Chahar came over the wicket and sprayed a leg-break that straightened after pitching at the middle and leg stump line. Narine was pinned back and opened up for a whip across the line but ended up getting beaten on the inside edge as the ball thudded into his thigh. Umpire Barde raised his finger after the bowler had almost given up on the appeal to rule Narine dismissed. However, the Caribbean star opted for a review and it was observed that the ball was going over the stumps.

Seeing the umpire get the decision wrong despite taking his own sweet time, leading to Narine’s survival, the Twitterverse exploded.
