Royal Challengers Bengaluru steamrolls Gujarat Titans in the first match of Sunday’s doubleheader by seven wickets and four overs to spare. Will Jacks century, coupled with Virat Kohli’s fifty eclipsed Sai Sudharsan’s resilient 84 to ease the chase of 201 runs comfortably in Ahmedabad.

Winning the toss and opting to field first initially worked well for RCB when Swapnil Singh got the better of Wriddhiman Saha in the first over. Shubman Gill and B Sai Sudharsan were struggling to command at a higher strike rate and eventually, the GT skipper fell after a 42-run powerplay. Eventually, the GT management promoted Shahrukh Khan at  No. 4 and he started accelerating during the middle overs phase. His assault against the spinners helped GT surge to a run rate of nine runs per over from seven six overs’ space. The Tamil Nadu duo went on to smash a fifty, paving the way for an 86-run third-wicket stand before Mohammed Siraj cleaned him up in the 15th over. However, the arrival of David Miller helped Sudharsan switched gears and the pair orchestrated yet another fifty-plus stand with the southpaw’s 49-ball 84 propelling the scorecard to 200/3 in 20 overs.

In response, the tourists kicked off the chase on a flying note, courtesy of a 40-run partnership between openers Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis. Although the latter was outdone by R Sai Kishore in the fourth over, Kohli continued the charge to sum up a 63-run powerplay. Will Jacks looked struggling against the spin triumvirate of Rashid Khan, Noor Ahmad, and Sai Kishore and therefore Kohli kept most of the strike against them, keeping RCB commanding in the game. The score read 98/0 halfway through the chase with Jacks striking at 16 off 16. Soon, Mohit Sharma was summoned in the attack and the Englishman broke free with a six and a four. The pair accelerated for 50 runs in the next four overs, curtailing the equation to 53 required off the last six overs. One may think this could take at least three-four overs time for a chase but Jacks had some other options and slammed 58 runs off the next two overs with four sixes a four against Rashid Khan to bring up his maiden IPL century and win the game with 24 balls to spare.
